What is the “Good News”

My prayer is this, that you’d receive this word as coming from God and not simply from myself or any other man (1 Thess. 2:13). May it refresh your soul in power by the Holy Spirit bringing new life to you dear friend.

The good news that I joyously proclaim to you today is the gospel of Jesus Christ! It’s truth is sweet and has set me free from a life of death and slavery.  Although the gospel is God’s redemptive story of man throughout history, beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation, I believe that it can be summed up and explained simply and beautifully from one verse in the Bible.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

A wage is something that is earned, and since all of us have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), the only thing we’ve earned comes from the sin of our heart.  Most people think sin is a bad action, but it is more accurately a condition of the heart.  So our sin has earned us death, a spiritual death, of not knowing God.  The good news hinges on the very next word, BUT!

God, being rich in mercy, intervened in that “but” and provided a free gift for us who are called to Him by the Holy Spirit!  Gifts are given freely and not earned by any good deeds, and by HIS GRACE the Lord gives us eternal life!

What does that mean exactly?  John 17:3 says that eternal life is that we might know God! So the gift of eternal life is a REDEMPTION to our original state of being in right relationship with God, and we get to know Him from the day we are spiritually awakened to the end of the age,  FOREVER!

The next part is probably the most important piece though.  God delivered this very precious gift through His Son, Jesus Christ!  He was the glory of God that came to live among us to live a perfect life, so that he might be a perfect substitution for us.  This is the work he achieved on the cross when he was crucified.  The great celebration we sing hallelujah for is that he conquered the GRAVE so we might be redeemed through the power of his resurrection!

Friends, this is the most precious thing on this earth, and all the Lord calls you to do is to look upon Jesus Christ and believe.  That simple.  God says in His Word “that whoever believes in him may have eternal life” (John 3:15).  The kingdom of God is at hand!  Pray that the Lord might open your eyes to this truth and awaken your heart!  That is my prayer for you.  Blessings to you!

Solo Deo Gloria!
